When Everything Began to Unravel

I moved to the U.S. full of dreams — like so many others.
I worked hard, earned my degree, landed a solid engineering job, and started building a life on my H1B visa.

From the outside, things looked stable.
But inside, I was silently falling apart.

A painful and unexpected divorce,
Constant immigration worries,
Legal pressures I wasn’t prepared for,
And worst of all — trying to be there for my kids, while barely staying afloat myself.

I felt like I was holding everything up on a thread.
And then… came Shukrana.
Or maybe… Shukrana came for me.

A Small Start That Changed Everything

It began with just one quiet message from a volunteer. I didn’t expect anything.
I was used to facing things alone.

But that single conversation opened a door I didn’t even know existed.
Within days, people from Shukrana started stepping in — not as professionals, but as humans who truly cared.

They helped me:

  • Understand the legal steps in my separation

  • Connect with pro bono attorneys who were kind and capable

  • Navigate real estate and asset division

  • Review immigration risks and help protect my status

  • Most touchingly — they arranged emotional and coaching support for my children, who were quietly hurting in the middle of it all

It Wasn’t Just Help — It Was Companionship

These weren’t case workers or consultants. They became companions.
Brothers. Sisters. Listeners. Pillars.

There were nights I broke down.
And someone would stay on the phone. No pressure. No judgment.
Just someone who understood what it meant to go through all of this — away from home, in a foreign land, with no real safety net.

One volunteer quietly told me:

ā€œYou don’t have to carry this alone. We walk with Shukrana in our hearts and seva in our hands. Now we walk with you too.ā€

And they meant every word.

No Spotlight, Just Seva

Shukrana doesn’t make noise.
You won’t find flashy branding, social media campaigns, or hotlines.

It’s intentional.
They work quietly, discretely, and with deep respect for your privacy and dignity.

They are not-for-profit, and while some professionals may accept a donation or minimal fee — they never push for it.

When I asked how I could repay them, all they said was:

ā€œJust donate to the platform that connected us.ā€

From Being Helped… to Becoming One Who Helps

I came to Shukrana broken.
I stayed because I found a family.
And now, I stand with them — proudly — as a Shukrana Ambassador.

I now help others the way they once helped me.

If you're reading this — maybe you’re on an H1B too, maybe you're dealing with heartbreak, legal pressure, immigration stress, or just trying to keep your kids safe while you hold everything together — please hear me:

You don’t have to do this alone.

We’re Here. I’m Here.

But the intention is pure. The seva is real.

Because Shukrana didn’t just help me survive…
They helped me heal, grow, and transform into someone who can now stand for others.
